December Excitement in Pre-K 2!

Good afternoon Pre-K 2 families,

Time is flying by in Pre-K 2! Next week will be our last week before our winter break. This week, we had a lot of time for problem solving in the classroom and out on the playground. We have been talking about using the Problem Solving Process that we learned with our science curriculum when we have difficulties with friends. The students are doing a good job using their words to talk things through with their peers and are starting to make connections between what they’ve learned and real-life problems.

This week at MORNING MEETING:

Weekly Stories: "The Gingerbread Baby" by Jan Brett- we talked about how our two gingerbread books were similar and different

We also listened to several books on CD, while Mrs. Daday’s voice was taking a rest.

Lots of music and movement too!

This week at SMALL GROUPS:

* We practiced writing and sequencing the letters in our name.

* We explored ice blocks by adding water, baking soda, and vinegar. Ask your child to tell you what happened when they sprinkled/squirted them on the ice blocks.

* We worked on a special gift for your families.

Here's what's happening at CENTERS:

Art- ornament making station and coloring pages at the art table, Q-Tip painting gingerbread houses and dot marker ornaments at the easel

Blocks- wooden blocks, magnatiles with bells, trains, train track rug, wooden people

Dramatic Play- Holiday Home: tree, decorations, candle holder, cookie baking supplies, hot cocoa bar, winter holidays posters

Writing/Library- books about winter holidays, shape tracing papers, holiday cards with envelopes and stickers, and word chart

Playdough - cinnamon scented dough, cookie cutters, cookie add-ons, rollers, scissors Math- number identification and sequencing numbers with a train floor puzzle Science- kinetic sand, cups, alphabet bears

Sensory Table- shredded paper, jingle bells, magnet wands, boxes, mini gingerbread man erasers

We have a busy week ahead with a few visitors coming in to read stories and share music. WEDNESDAY, 12/14 is Wacky Sweater Day. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. I look forward to seeing you on Monday!

Sincerely,

Brenda Daday
