Jack and Jill is seeking a part-time preschool teacher. This teacher will facilitate and nurture children’s interactions in the preschool classroom. The teacher will work to create class communities where students feel safe to be themselves, to take risks, and to develop skills at their own pace. Lessons and projects will be based on the observation of the children allowing the curriculum to emerge with the pursuits and questions of the children. This individual must be dedicated to personal self-reflection and evaluation of their interactions with the children, families and colleagues.

The ideal teacher will:

Have an understanding of the developmental needs of young children

Be able to engage children and redirect behavior.

Have a passion for working with young children.

Be self-motivated to work independently and collaboratively.

Have strong interpersonal skills, organizational, and time-management skills.

Feel comfortable and confident about meeting the needs of children in a mixed age classroom.

Be calm, warm and nurturing in their approach with young children.

Demonstrate curiousity, flexibility, and creativity.

Will be able to both plan lessons and recognize moments to follow the lead of the children.

 

Responsibilities:

Teach groups of children in mixed age classes.

Support the social and emotional growth of each child.

Have a calm, nurturing approach with young children.

Build positive relationships with each child and families.

Observe the children in order to understand growth and to plan offerings.

Document activities and share with families.

Foster joy and wonder in learning.

Foster play, problem solving and collaborating between children.

Maintain school supplies through organization and cleaning.

Develop classroom curriculum.

Facilitate family teacher conferences.

Assess children and write progress reports.

Attend monthly staff meetings.

Attend school wide professional development days.

 

Qualifications:

Experience working with children 3-5 years old and an understanding of child development.

Strong communication and organizational skills

Ability to work as part of a team with patience and flexibility

Dedication to self-reflection and a desire to continually improve your craft

Physical ability to be outside each day, moving and walking in all weather and the ability to lift objects up to 50 lbs.

EEC preschool teacher certification.

Current CPR and First Aid certification.

Time Commitment:

Part Time: 22.5 hours per week; Mon – Fri 8:30-1:00 ( Every otherTues. 8:30-1:45).

This is a school year position which will begin after the new year and end at the beginning of June. There is a possibility to renew for the following school year.
