February Fun in Enrichment!

Hi everyone!

We hope you're able to enjoy the sunshine today, and the warmer weather this weekend! I'm thinking a hike in the woods is just what I need, even if it's still a bundled up hike in the woods! I hope you find something that's just what you need this weekend!

VALENTINE'S DAY UPDATE!

In addition to having a class with Ms. Heather and handing out Valentine's cards to our friends... we're also going to be having a Valentine's Dance with the other classes upstairs in the big room on Wednesday the 14th! This doesn't change anything in terms of prepping your child for school, we just wanted to let you know it's happening.

This week we started talking about letters of the alphabet, starting with A! As the school year goes on we'll work our way through most of the alphabet in class. Ask your child to point out any upper or lower case "A"s that they see while you're driving, reading, or at the store!

Our books this week were What Should Darla Do? by Ganit and Adir Levy. This is another "Power to Choose" book where the children got to vote to decide which decision Darla would make when different situations came up in her day. These decisions affected how her day went. Most children voted for her to make good decisions throughout the book so her day ended well! We did, however, go back and make a different choice, which ended Darla's day with a friend and sister angry with her. The kids made good choices for Darla! We also read Pete the Cat: Valentine's Day is Cool by Kimberly and James Dean. Pete learns how cool Valentine's Day is when you celebrate it with friends! And lastly, we read The Adventures of Abby Alligator by Maria Fleming. This is the first in a series of animal alphabet books that uses the letter of the book A LOT to tell the story!

What was NEW in centers this week?

Art- We decorated Valentine bags for the children to be able to hand out Valentine cards in class next Tuesday. If your child was not in school, don't worry, their friends decorated a bag for them!

Easel- We used dot markers to color in a bear with a heart!

Math- The children matched plastic hearts to a different number of dots (1-10) on a page. This gets them counting, and recognizing the numbers that match.

Playdough- This month we have purple playdough with Valentine themed dough cutters.

Pretend Center- We're constructing in our classroom this month! The children can use (age appropriate) tools and safety gear!

Discovery- Shaving cream and cars were a big hit this week!

Sensory table- We're using beads, funnels, scoops, and some sand toys to work on our hand eye coordination. OH! And it's fun too!!

We've also had a lot of fun building with blocks and learning duck, duck, goose on the playground!

Have a safe and healthy weekend, and we look forward to seeing you on Tuesday!

Warmly,

Christina Renoni and Julie Haynes
