Hello All,
It's hard to believe that the year is almost over! In thinking about summer and Kindergarten, please keep in mind that Jack and Jill offers 7 weeks of Summer PreSchool. August 18th-21st is Kindergarten Readiness Camp. I will be teaching this camp and would love to see your children. It is a great opportunity to review school readiness skills and we even have Specials...Art, Gym, Music & Library. And on Thursday, the children are able to purchase "school lunch" and practice carrying a tray and finding a seat. If you are intested please let Mrs. Lay know.
We listened to our Reading Street book this week. It was Cassie's Word Quilt by Faith Ringgold. "Join Cassie, as she takes readers on a tour of her home, neighborhood and school, introducing dozens of new words & their meanings. Young readers will relish the beautifully designed spreads, each with it's own quilt motif." The children enjoyed looking for the words in the illustrations on each page as we listened to the book.
Our Reading Street Song was I Live In The City. Our vocabulary words were apartment, closet, bedroom, quilt, classmates and picnic.
Our Letter of the Week was X. Our Letter Sound Song was Xavier Fox Lives In a Box.
Other activities:
Project Table: Making an x-ray. The children traced their hand and then were able to glue q-tips on as the bones. They did a great job on these as tracing your own hand is tricky.
We also worked on something special for the Art Show
Art Easel: White paper and water color markers were available for free art.
Math Table: Making patterns with foam animals
Listening Center: The Crunching Munching Caterpillar
Play-Doh: This week we had colored sand and were working on writing letters and numbers in it.
Discovery Table: Our classroom caterpillars arrived just in time for us to return to school from April vacation. The children were so excited. We observed them as they ate a lot and got much bigger this week. The children used microscopes to get a closer look at the caterpillars. We talked a lot about the life cycle.
Block Area: There was much excitement as there are large tinker toys to build with. You name it, it was being built...roller coasters, cars, bikes, airplanes, windmill, generator, microphone, jack hammer to name a few!
Looking ahead:
May 5th, 12th & 19th-Please dress your child in comfortable clothing as we are going to be learning to do karate!
Show & Tell for Letter Y will be on Wednesday.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kelley
