Kicking Off 2026 in Pre-K!

Hello & Happy New Year to All,

It was so nice to be back together at school. The transition back went very well with everyone doing a great job getting back into our school routines. The children were very excited to see each other and reconnect!

Our Reading Street book this week was Henny Penny by H. Werner Zimmerman. "Henny Penny and her friends are on their way to tell the king that the sky is falling when they meet a hungry fox."

Our song was The Forest. Our vocabulary words were acorn, forest, shortcut, cave, hollered and sly.

We also read The Perfect Fit by Naomi Jones, The Mitten by Jan Brett, Chicka Chicka 1 2 3 by BIll Martin Jr and Five Dirty Pigs/Five Clean Pigs by Carol Roth which is an upside down, turn around counting book.

Our Letter of the Week was G. Our song was Get Going.

Discovery: What can you build? Cups, pom poms and tea lights were available.

Pretend Center: Our North Pole Post Office continues to be busy with mail being made and delivered. Each child will get a turn to be the mail carrier. This week we had notecards, construction paper with winter stamps and thank you notes available to use.

Play Doh: We have new play doh. It is white with blue sparkles. There are hats, carrot noses, eyes, glasses, buttons, etc available to be used to create a snowman. Some children were using the twigs to create antlers to make a reindeer.

Art Easel: Watercolors with snowmen, penguins and white paper for free art.

Project Table: Sparkly snowflakes. Snowflakes were painted and then sparkles were added

Mitten Project: The children decorated a mitten, colored each animal from the story, attached a popsicle stick and put the animals in the mitten. They were excited to tell the story of The Mitten to you! Listening Center: Alright Already! A Snowy Story by Jory JohnSensory Table: There is now snow (white paper shred), jewels, blocks, pom poms, bubble wrap and arctic animals. Math Table: Geoboards...the children stretched elastics on the boards to make shapes, objects and even letters.

To extend on the book The Perfect Fit, I added magnetic shapes and boards for the children to create shape art.

Writing Table: A lot of drawing took place here, along with G worksheets.

Extended Day: We worked on our scissor skills, handwriting, number recognition and counting objects. We used wooden pieces to create letter G as well as practicing lower case g.

Looking ahead, Show & Tell for Letter S will be on Thursday.

See you in the morning!

Mrs. Kelley
