Hi Everyone,
Our week went by very quickly. Our Project Table was a busy spot this week. We worked on the holiday gifts, made reindeer food, decorated foam Christmas trees and ornaments with glitter, stickers, jewels and pom poms. Lots of cutting, gluing and using those fine motor skills to do it all. I hope you all like your gift!
Our Pretend Center has changed to a Post Office...or as Charlie named it the "North Pole Post Office"! This was the place to be! Many cards were addressed and others made their own homemade cards. The cards get put in the blue mailbox and our Super Duper Helper of the day gets to empty the mailbox and deliver all of the mail to our classroom mailboxes.
We read Santa's New Suit, Who'll Pull Santa's Sleigh, The Littlest Reindeer, Ten Christmas Wishes and Don't Let The Pigeon Drive The Sleigh.
We did not have a letter of the week but worked on shape recognition all week. We had fun searching for shapes throughout our classroom. We also worked on active listening. The children were paired up with a partner, given a topic and headed off to chat. Next, the pairs came up and reported to the class what they had learned about their friend. Some topics were what they were asking Santa for, favorite food and favorite food. The children really enjoyed this. It was adorable to see the excitement with a pair of friends that realized after talking together that they had the same favorite movie. Their smiles were ear to ear!
Other activities in our classroom this week were:
Discovery: Building a habitat for penguins.
Can you build a Christmas tree? Green cups, tea lights and pom poms were available to create a tree.
Math Table: Magnetic shapes and boards
Art Easel: The children fingerpainted strands of lights.
Writing Table: The children were excited to spot a reindeer in the I Can Draw animal book. Holiday stamps were also available.
Today, was the last day of school for the children. I look forward to meeting with you for Conferences on Monday, December 22nd. There is childcare avalable for daytime conferences only.
I wanted to thank you very much for my gifts. I truly appreciate your generosity!
I wish you and your families a Happy Holiday! School will reopen on Monday, January 5th.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kelley
