Hi All,
Important information for the week:
PLEASE send a hat and mittens everyday for your child.
Show & Tell for letter V will be on Thursday.
Our next Spirit Day, Summer vs Winter will be on Friday.
Also Growth Spurt Alert! Many children are finishing their snacks and are still hungry. If you could please send an extra snack with your child that would be great. If they don't need it, it will be sent back home.
Thank you to everyone who came to the Spaghetti Supper/Candy Bingo and everyone that bought raffle tickets. It was a fun night! And we had many raffle winners from Prek!
Our Letter of the Week was A. Our Letter Sound Song was Clap, Clap, Clap for the Animal Act. I bet if you mention the title your child will start to sing!
Project Table: The children were able to create their own weather wheels to bring home. I loved hearing their stories of doing weather reporting at home.
A is for Alligator...the children used pieces to create the letter A and then turned it into an alligator. Many children even cut their own teeth!
Water Cycle Craft-the children used stickers and markers to create their own water cycle
One of my favorite things in the classroom is listening to the children and the wonderful ideas they come up with. One child worked very hard to make a "device that would tell him what the person he held it up to was thinking". This caused another friend to ask how he made it.
On Monday, I put out all sorts of supplies they could use to build a Leprechaun Trap. I told the children they could use anything in the classroom to make it. What wonderful ideas they came up with....everyone had input and lots of creativity was shown. Making grass, leaving pizza, gold, building a trap door, rainbows, glue on paper for the Leprechaun to stick to. I attached a picture of the children hard at work. Well, our trap did not work. The Leprechaun made off with the pizza and left behind a mess in our classroom and green sparkly footprints leading to an open window. He sure was tricky. There were shiny shamrocks and gold all over our floor. The children each collected some to bring home.
Art Easel: Color mixing-the children learned that by mixing blue and yellow they were able to make green. They painted shamrocks. It led to conversations about what happened when they added more blue or yellow and about different shades of green.
Math Table: Tweezer tong sorting of colors/making patterns.
As a class, we worked on graphing Lucky Charms. This was a hit! The children enjoyed sorting the marshmallows and being able to bring home a treat. BUT on top of that we were talking about Math Concepts!
Listening Center: Llama Llama and the Bully Goat by Ana Dewdney.
Play Doh: Green play doh, cutters and silicone molds
Discovery Table: We started the week with the suction building pieces as this was so popular last week. I then moved the pieces to be used on our easel at Puzzles and Games.
We then did a science experiment. Using shaving cream the children saw how when the clouds become saturated they produce precipitation. The shaving cream acts as a cloud, water in the cup represents the atmosphere and the children used droppers to add colored water to represent the rain.
Sensory Table: Kinetic sand, construction, molds and blocks
Writing Table: Shape punchers, different color paper, scissors, stapler and tape
Find the lucky shamrocks....identifying 5 four leaf clovers among many three leaf clovers
Color by Letter...following the key at the top of the page, the children colored each letter the corresponding color to create a beautiful rainbow.
Our Reading Street book was Growing Like Me by Anne Rockwell. "Everything in nature grows up-just like you and me! It's springtime, and the local pond is bursting with new life. Shiny black pollywogs are growing into frogs and baby robins hatch from pale blue eggs. The blackberry bushes are full of sweet, juicy berries and the new monarch butterflies emerge from their cocoons." Our vocabulary words were blossoms, hatch, caterpillar, growing, pollywog and pond. We talked a lot about the changes we will be seeing as the weather gets warmer and our new season Spring! I told the children to look around outside to see what is changing. Our Reading Street Song was I Am Growing.
We also read Pete the Cat: The Great Leprechaun Chase, Alan's Big Scary Teeth, Wake Up, It's Spring and Rain, The Cycle of Water.
See you in the morning!
Mrs. Kelley
