Hello Families,
We had a great week at school! On Wednesday, we walked over to the Attleboro Public Library where we had a tour of the children's section. Mrs. Brown, the children's librarian, read us the book The Library by Sarah Stewart. We then played in the children's section where there were trucks, magnetic letters, a sitting area and books to use. Many children got their own library cards and were able to check out one book. After visiting the library, we went outside and had a picnic snack of goldfish and juice boxes. Then we played on the playground.
Our Letter of the Week was Z. Our song was Zip and Zigzag to the Zoo.
We read Inside A Zoo In The City. This is a read-along story and the children really enjoyed it. We also read Animal Strike At the Zoo, Ravi's Roar, and listened to Splat and the Cool School Trip and Clark the Shark Lost and Found.
Other activities included:
Project Table: We started the week by making caterpillars by stringing beads on a pipe cleaner. The children were able to cut leaves out of green construction paper and use the hole puncher too. Many children made a cocoon out of brown crepe paper.
Z is for Zebra...the children created a letter z with strips of paper and then were able to turn it into a zebra.
Art Easel: Free art...white paper, markers, watercolors
Writing Table: Z worksheets, Z books, white paper and assorted writing utensils
Math Table: Balance Beans...a wobbly way to learn math. The children worked hard to think and figure out how the place the beans to balance the board.
Sensory Table: Fairy gardens, coffee beans, jewels
Play Doh: Blue with sea creatures, scissors, rollers and cookie cutters
Pretend Center: Doctor's Office
Discovery Table: We observed our classroom caterpillars in their chrysalis and moved them into the butterfly house. We talked about how we don't see a lot of activity from the outside but the wonderful changes taking place on the inside. Observation journals have been available since day one and many children have been making daily journal entries of their observations.
On Thursday, for Show & Tell each child will be able to show our class a talent they have. We talked about this during the week. I explained what a talent is and we talked about some examples such as singing, karate, gymnastics, dance, cheerleading, a skill from a sport, magic trick, joke....anything they want. I just ask if your child needs music for their talent, please let me know by Wednesday, the name of the song they need. And if they need a prop, like a ball, hoola hoop, etc, that you send it in so they have it.
See you tomorrow!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kelley
