Hello all,
It is hard to believe the year is almost over! We have been fitting a lot of fun in each day! We continue to practice our graduation songs and rehearse what will happen during the big night!
We read Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin, Jr and Alpha Oops The Day Z went First by Alethea Kontis. This was helpful as we have been busy reviewing the letters of the alphabet, the correct formation and their sounds. We also read Chicka Chicka 1 2 3 as we reviewed numbers, counted from 1-100 as well as by 10's to 100. The children enjoyed playing Number Bingo too. We read Mouse Shapes by Ellen Stoll Walsh as we reviewed shapes. And last but not least, we read Hey, Little Ant by Phillip & Hannah Hoose. Ask your child about this story. It was a conversation between a a child and an ant.
Other activities:
We did a fun activity where the children picked a letter from a box, walked around the class until they found their letter somewhere in print in our room. They stood next to it and once everyone found their letter, each child identified their letter and pointed out where they found it. Letters are everywhere! This is a fun activity you could do at home. I am so impressed at how many letters and sounds the children now know!
Discovery Table:The week started off with our caterpillars in the butterly house in their cocoons. On Wednesday, a butterfly emerged while we were using the bathroom before lunch. On Thursday, two more emerged. We are just waiting for one more. We are feeding them sugar water and will release them all at once.
Sensory Table: Fairy gardens, coffee beans, jewels
Art Easel: Flower pot worksheets and watercolors
Butterly dot art and markers
Writing Table: Alphabet worksheets, cookie sheet with magnetic letters and white paper, writing utensils and scissors
Play Doh: Blue play doh with sea life, cookie cutters, scissors, rolling pins
Project Table: Shape Art-using different objects such as magna-tiles & puzzle pieces, the children traced shapes and turned the shapes into artwork
Chicka Chicka Boom Boom craft-the children could make a tree, find the letters of their name to glue on and count up how many letters are in their name to answer the question.
Five Green and Speckled Frogs Project-using green pom poms and a paper towel tube the children created their own prop to go along with this song
Math Table: Ladybug counting activity-10 numbered leaves and ladybugs to count out and place on the leaf.
The block area is still very popular with the children enjoying the trains.
We will be celebrating the children with summer birthdays on Monday, June 1st.
Our last day of school will be Thursday, June 4th. For Show & Tell, the children can bring one item that begins with any letter of the alphabet...the only thing is it needs to fit in a brown paper lunch bag which I will give to them on Monday. Please have your child write the letter their item begins with on the outside of the bag and fold the top of the bag over.
Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kelley
