Ending a Great School Year in Pre-K!

Hi Everyone,

Our last four days together were fun-filled. On Monday, we celebrated the children with summer birthdays. We also released our classroom butterflies outside on the playground. On Thursday, the children really enjoyed Show & Tell. Each child would say the letter they wrote on their bag and remind the class what sound it makes. Then they would give a clue as to what was in the bag and the children tried to guess what the item was. It was another way to review letters and sounds. We also worked on reviewing numbers and shapes. We ended the school year with a picnic snack of popsicles outside on the playground.

We read The Butterfly Book, A is For Apple & All Things That Grow, Edgar Graduates and Instead of Goodbye. 

Other activities included: 

Block Area: Large tinker toys to build with. Windmills, vacuums, buildings, weights, were just some of the things being built. 

Discovery: On Monday, we had the journals available to record the last observation of our butterflies.

The rest of the week we had the alphabet mystery box where the children would reach in, pull out an object and then place the object on the letter it began with.

Pretend Center: We finished out our school year with the Doctor's Office which was busy right up to clean up time on the last day of school! 

Writing Table: Find the butterfly that doesn't match, connect the dots, white paper, scissors and writing utensils.

Play Doh: Blue play doh with sea creatures

Math Table: Number identification/counting out objects

We also played Number Bingo 

Art Easel: Shape stamps....the children used the stamps and ink pads and then turned the shapes into objects.

Project Table: We started the week with Chicka Chicka Boom Boom alphabet trees. The children also were able to make sensory bags. They found the letters of their first name, some even found the letters of their last name too. They put the letters, beads and some erasers in a bag. Then they used their hand muscles to squeeze gel into the bag. We sealed it up and then were able to move around the objects in the bag and could move the letters to spell their name.

We observed the wings on our classroom butterflies and discussed symmetry. The children were able to see this with our butterfly project. They painted one wing on their butterfly with a lot of paint and then folded the other wing on top and pressed. It was so nice to see the excitement when they opened their butterfly and saw the symmetry in their own artwork!

Speaking of libraries and a favorite of our class...The Friends of the Plainville Public Library is hosting A Teddy Bear Picnic with Mrs. T on Wednesday, June 17th from 12:00-1:00 pm. The event is at Telford Park, 142 South St, Plainville, MA . No registration is required. 

Also, I hope the children liked their Portfolios. I wanted to let you know that I put an extra piece of blue cardstock in the back for Graduation pictures.

I can't believe this is it! I thank you very much for sharing your children with me this school year! They played, learned and grew so much. I am so proud of each and every one of them. Also, thank you very much for all of the cards, gifts and kind words. It truly meant so much!
