Adios April in Pre-K 1!
Hello,
Our Reading Street Book this week was Over in the Meadow by Olive Wadsworth. "Over in the meadow in the sand in the sun lived an old mother turtle and her little turtle one. So begins this classic nursery poem, a favorite counting rhyme for generations of children." The children had fun counting along. They also had fun pretending to be each of the animals in this book.
Our vocabulary words were sand, hole, beehive, meadow, barn and nest. Our Reading Street song was Living in the Meadow.
We also read Animal Strike At The Zoo by Karma Wilson and Inside A Zoo In The City by Alyssa Satin Capucilli.
Mrs. G was in today to visit with us. We sang along to the Teddy Bear song and even got to play musical instruments. Mrs. G had hand drums, tambourines, maracas and jingle bells that the children were able to play as they sang. She also read the story Blue Cockatoo and each time she said the word "blue" the children sighed.
We listened to The Chimpansneeze by Arron Zenz.
Our Letter of the Week was Z. Our Letter Sound Song was Zip and Zigzag to the Zoo. This song was sung to the tune of
B-I-N-G-O...and the children were very excited to spell Z-E-B-R-A.
Other activities:
Blocks: There are now large cups and small ones to build with. There has been a lot of team work and great building/balancing going on.
Pretend Center: Pizza Shop
Math Table: Shape Scavenger Hunt
Art Easel: We started the week painting. On Thursday and Friday, we used floral rubbing plates. Some of the children then cut out their flowers.
Project Table: We started a top secret project for an upcoming special day in May. Also, the children were able to create a zoo. Choosing animals, coloring them, gluing, adding details and lacing yarn. I loved seeing all of the different creations.
Discovery Table: A real birds nest and beehive were available to check out.
For Show & Tell next week, the children can bring in one item to share with the class. It can be anything they would like.
Have a nice weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kelley
