Hello Families!

It was so nice to see some of the children on Thursday and Friday! Everyone got right back into the school routine and lots of fun was had! On Friday, one of the children exclaimed "this is the best Friday ever" as we moved our bodies and the children tried to pop bubbles in our classroom. We also had our monthly visit with Mrs. T.

Some important information for this week:

  • Please read the email from Mrs. Lay regarding our school parking lot

  • It has been a LONG time since the children have brought their snow gear to school. Please take the time to make sure they have everything they need to be able to play in the snow.

  • Our first Spirit Day for the month of March will be on Wednesday-Thing 1 and Thing 2 vs Cat in the Hat.

  • Show & Tell for Letter R will be on Thursday.

We read Thomas' Snowsuit by Robert Munsch, The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats and listened to Footprints in the Snow by Mei Matsuoka. The children really enjoyed listening to this story and it led to conversation about the voices of the characters and sounds in the story...the crunch of stepping in the snow, the creak of the door opening. We talked about looking for footprints in the snow (since we have so much)from animals and humans. About how the footprints look different depending on whose print it is.

Other activities included:

Sensory Table: Kinetic sand, molds and construction vehicles

Discovery Table: Rainbow rocks-working on building and balancing the stones

Math Table: Fishbowl Math...identifying the number on the fishbowl and then counting out fish to fill it

Puzzles and Games: We added Chutes and Ladders and an alphabet puzzle to this center.

Play Doh: Pink play doh, rollers, cutters, gems and scissors

Writing Table: Paper, scissors, stamps

Project Table: On Thursday, we had free art...many things were created. One wonderful idea was a flying machine to bring you back in time.

On Friday, there were different animals and paint for the children to create their own "Footprint in the Snow" picture.

Art Easel: Tree print with white paint, cotton balls, pom poms, stickers and markers

We reviewed all of the letters we have learned so far this year. Working on writing them and the sound they each make. The children did such a great job identifying the letters just from me describing the strokes they would use to write them. So proud!

Extended Day Students: Process Art...On Thursday, the children colored on aluminum foil with markers, sprayed it with a water bottle and then pressed a white piece of paper onto the foil to make a print.

On Friday, the children made cuts into a coffee filter to make a snowflake. One of my favorite quotes was "no way" that one child said as he unfolded the coffee filter and saw his beautiful creation. The children then could use watercolor spray paint if they wanted.

See you in the morning!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Kelley
