Hello everyone,
I hope that you are all doing well. This week in class we celebrated Dr. Seuss week with many fun activities centered around his works. We read Ten Apples Up on Top, Fox in Sox, Have you seen my Dinosaur, and The Cat in the Hat. Throughout our exploration of the world of Dr. Seuss, the class learned about patterns, who an author is and what they do, and rhyming. Additionally, we learned letter O words and sounds. We enjoyed outdoor time in the snow each day, and overall had a wonderful week! Here is a look at what we did in centers:
The art table- Here the children used strips of paper to create striped patterns for their own cat's hats. The class then either wrote the letters of their names from memory, or traced dots to create their name hats. We also made paper sock collages with various materials, and colored Dr. Seuss coloring pages.
The math table: This week we offered a Ten Apples Up on Top themed activity, where the class used either glue and apple shaped paper cutouts, or dot stickers, to count and stack ten "apples" on top of a pictured dog's head!
The art easel: The class designed new hats for the Cat using paint, stickers, and markers, which are now hanging on the bulletin board in the hallway.
The discovery center- Here we used mini red plastic cups and index cards to stack the cat's hat; everyone had a lot of fun trying to stack the highest towers! We also included a tinker building set where the class used their imagination to create things using wheels, screws and bolts, and plastic planks.
This month we have added a new center to the classroom, and Tuesday's class helped us to transform it! Center time now includes a listening center combined with the writing center, where the children can go to listen to books on CD while following along with the physical copy of the story. They were so enthralled with this new addition, it was adorable to witness, and we are so glad that they loved it!
For the month of March we have orange playdough, a construction site themed dramatic play center, ( that has been very busy ), and kinetic sand "dirt" with construction vehicles, ramps, and roadway pieces in the sensory table.
This week the class took part in a special group activity, Dr. Seuss bingo! We all had such a great time playing, and somehow, every single student got bingo each time we played! 😉
Next week's letter of the week will be P, and next Thursday is our second spirit day for the month of March- PJ's vs. Fancy attire!
I hope that you all get to enjoy this slightly warmer weekend, and we look forward to seeing everyone again this coming week!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Mackenzie and Mrs. Haynes
