Hi Everyone,
Happy Mother's Day to all the Moms. I hope you have a great day!
I would like to thank you for taking the time for conferences on Monday. Also, thank you very much for the thoughtful gifts and generosity for Teacher Appreciation Week. It really meant a lot!
We had a busy week in our classroom. The children were excited to make their gift for their Mom. Each day at the Project Table, they worked on a different part of this project. I hope you all like your gift. The children planted dahlia seeds for you. We talked about what the seeds needed to grow.
We had our last visit with Mrs. T on Wednesday. The children loved dancing, singing and catching scarves. They were amazed at a song Mrs. T did where they scrunched the scarf in their hand and we sang about a seed growing and when they opened their hand it looked like a flower had grown.
Our classroom caterpillars have arrived. The children were so excited! And within 4 days we already have seen such a change...tiny caterpillars have been eating and eating and have gotten so much bigger. We have talked a lot about the life cycle of a butterfly and the children have been having fun acting the life cycle out. Ask you child if they can show you the life cycle!
We took a break from the Reading Street curriculum where it was a short week. We listened to The Crunching Munching Caterpillar by Sheridan Cain, Clara Caterpillar by Pamela Duncan Edwards and Usborne Beginners Caterpillars and Butterflies.
Other activities included:
Art Easel: We worked on still-life painting. There was a colorful vase of yellow flowers for the children to check out and paint. They did a really good job with this and their work will be on display at the Art Show.
Project Table: Mother's Day project
X-rays were made by the children tracing their hand and then gluing Q-Tips on as the bones. We also checked out real x-rays at the Pretend Center on the light table.
Listening Center: The Crunching Munching Caterpillar
Math Table: Light tables with translucent Legos
Writing Table: Spring stickers with small crayons to work on grasp.
Play Doh: Yellow play doh, tools and animals were available
Puzzles and Games: Dominoes have been added and new puzzles
Pretend Center: We will be finishing up with the Doctor's Office soon but boy it has been busy daily!
Sensory Table: Water beads, containers, scoopers
Discovery Table: Our caterpillars, magnifying glasses and the children were able to create their own journal with their observations. They seemed to enjoy this!
A reminder that Jack and Jill's Art Show/Open House is tomorrow, May 11th from 6pm-7pm. I hope to see you there!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kelley
