Hi All,
Thank you to the families that were able to come to our Art Show/Open House. The children were very excited to show off their artwork. They should be very proud of themselves! I loved hearing the children explaining how they created the different pieces of art that were on display.
Some important information for the week ahead!
Wednesday-Field Trip to the Library. You do not need to pack a snack as we will be providing one. You do need to pack lunch. Also, sneakers will be the best choice for walking/playing.
Thursday-Show & Tell for letter Z.
We had a fun-filled week in our classroom.
Our Reading Street book this week was Fishy Tales. This book takes "young readers in the deep blue sea to discover fish swimming through the coral reefs, starfish on the sandy ocean floor and jellyfish floating up and down in the waves." The children really enjoyed the photographs in this book. They had fun acting out the sea life we read about. Our Reading Street song was Who Lives In The Sea? Our vocabulary words were dolphin, octopus, sea, sea horse, shark and starfish.
We also read The Invisible Boy by Trudy Ludwig and The Very Hungry Caterpillar and The Grouchy Ladybug both by Eric Carle.
Our Letter of the Week was Y. Y is a tricky letter for the children to make which is why we learn it at the end of the year. We practiced the formation a lot! Making a small diagonal line and a large diagonal line. Our song was Let's Go In My Yard to Play.
Play Doh: Blue play doh, sea creatures, scuba divers, cookie cutters
Art Table: Bracelets were made by lacing beads on pipe cleaners
Yarn art...yarn was available along with card stock, craft sticks, glue, and eyes
The children also created their own hungry caterpillars by using round sponge foam brushes with red and green paint.
Listening Center: Clark The Shark by Bruce Hale
Art Easel: We started the week with rubbing plates. The children were able to see what happened when they rubbed the crayon across the paper. We ended the week painting a tropical fish with watercolors
Writing Table: White paper, writing supplies and scissors
Pretend Center: Doctor's Office
Sensory Table: Water beads
I hope you all enjoy the beautiful day!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kelley
