Saying Goodbye to October in Mixed Age!
Good afternoon Mixed Age families!
This week was so much fun and very eventful; it was filled with lots of Halloween themed activities and plenty of conversations about the holiday. Everyone was really excited to tell us about their night and how much fun they had! This week we had our first spirit day at school. The spirit days have been sent home in your mail boxes and are included in the monthly newsletter! Next week we will be having "Wacky Wednesday". There will be school all week as Jack and Jill is not a polling location, and our letter of the week for class and show and tell will be the letter E.
Here is a look at what we included in our centers this week.
The discovery center was full of Halloween filled activities this week. On Monday and Tuesday everyone was able to use either their hands or a large carving spoon to scoop out the inside of a pumpkin for our class Jack-o-lantern! Some of our friends loved using their hands to feel the inside contents of the pumpkin, while others very much did not; yet everyone loved being able to empty the pumpkin. We then took a vote on both days to determine the eye shape, nose shape, and mouth style, (happy or scary) for the jack-o-lantern. On Wednesday we carved the pumpkin, and both that day and Thursday we ate our lunch by "jack-o-lantern light". Thursday and Friday we also had color mixing bags that had Halloween themed pictures on them. The children were here able to mix colors in their own bag and see what color was created as a result.
The art table this week included our hanging puffy ghosts that the kids made using cotton balls, construction paper, and glue. We then had a candy corn craft where the children used both tissue paper and orange construction paper to create their own candy corn pieces.
The art easel included dot marker sheets with both ghosts and the letter D, which was our letter of the week.Â
At the writing table we had mini chalk boards, multi colored chalk, erasers, and materials for free drawing and writing.Â
The math table offered a jack-o-lantern matching activity that included both small and large pumpkins of various colors.
The books that we read this week were:
              Skeleton Hiccups
How Do Dinosaurs Say Trick or Treat
              Pumpkin TimeÂ
This week we had our weekly visit from Sensei Michael on Wednesday as well. Everyone really looks forward to having him and he always brings so much fun and joy to the classroom. I hope that all of your families enjoyed the holiday last night, and hope that the weekend is equally fun! We look forward to seeing all of you on Monday, and as always, please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.Â
Sincerely,
Mrs.MacKenzie and Mrs. HaynesÂ
