Hi All,

Important information:

  • Jack and Jill will be closed for April vacation next week. I will see you all on Monday, April 27th.

  • Picture Day will be on Monday, April 27th

  • We will be reviewing letters M, N & W before moving onto a new letter. Therefore, for Show & Tell on Thursday, April 23rd your child can bring one item that begins with any of these letters.

  • School is closed on Monday, May 4th for Parent/Teacher Conferences.

We had a great week in our classroom. We did our second read through of What Do You Do With A Tail Like This? by Steven Jenkins. We talked about the animals that we read about last week and many children were able to recall the animals and what they did with their body parts. We sang our Reading Street Song and reviewed our vocabulary words which were breathe, meal, animals, insects, hear and sea. We also read Mrs. McNosh Hangs Up Her Wash by Sarah Weeks, There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Worm by Lucille Colandro and listened to Still  A Gorilla by Kim Norman.

Our Letter of the Week was W. Our song was Walk This Way in Wet Weather. We worked on identifying the letter W in print by locating it in books from our library. This is an activity you can do at home with cereal boxes, books or anything else with words on it. We did an entire alphabet hunt in the hallway of our school today. One child who was going away over April vacation, told me he plans to take the alphabet sheet with him and look out his car window for letters of the alphabet. I loved this!

Other activities included:

Discovery Table: This center was closed. You may have heard that I was having meetings with the children.

Sensory Table: The children helped me to measure water beads and water. We discussed the size of the beads which were very tiny and observed the change in size as they absorbed the water. On Tuesday, these beads were moved into our Sensory Table. I added spoons, strainers, cups, containers with lids and shovels. The children have been having so much fun here!

Math Table: Pattern animal blocks

Project Table: W is for watermelon. On Monday and Tuesday, the children were able to paint a watermelon and add black beans as the seeds.

Mrs. McNosh Project. Ask your child what Mrs. McNosh hung up on her clothesline. It was so great to see the children draw items and then cut the items out themselves and attach them to their clothes line.....a turkey, a barrel, the dog, a bone, a newspaper, fake teeth and even Mrs. McNosh in her chair.

Cupcake liner flowers were created with pipe cleaners and vases were created out of paper towel tubes.

Art Easel: White paper and markers for free art. On Thursday and Friday, there were foam weather pieces and glue to be used.

Puzzles: A new floor puzzle was added which is a 45 piece animal puzzle.

Writing Table: Doodle boards, paper, crayons, w worksheets and books

Pretend Center: Doctor's Office with babies to check

Play Doh: Green play doh with trees, rocks and animals

I hope you all have a great vacation week!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Kelley
