Hello everyone!
I hope that you are all enjoying the beautiful spring weather today! We had a fun filled, eventful week at school the past few days! On Monday we were visited by a member of the RI Audubon Society, along with the rosy boa, Barbosa! We read Flower Garden, by Eve Bunting, and learned about snakes and their habitats. On Thursday the Audubon Society visited again, this time accompanied by Westie, a female painted turtle who is over 24 years old! On this day we listened to a read aloud of, Where Should Turtle Be, investigated a turtle shell, and pet Westie! Friday we had our beloved monthly visit with the whimsical Mrs. T, who sang songs about little bunny foo foo, baby shark, and more spring time favorites. This week's letter of the week was T and next week we will learn about the letter U. For the foreseeable future, as the weather has been nicer, please send your child in with their jackets and appropriate attire for the weather, as we will go back to getting outside first thing in the morning. Thank you! Here is a look at what we did in class this week:
The art table: The class used tissue paper and construction paper to create turtle sun catchers! We then used different tools to paint paper plate "flowers" for a classroom wall bouquet!
The art easel- The class created self portraits by using handheld mirrors to see their reflections. We then used potato mashers and green paint to stamp turtle shells!
The discovery center- Here we made rain clouds out of paper plates. The children used a hole puncher to make holes in a paper plate "cloud", then threaded pipe cleaners and blue beads onto them as raindrops. On Friday we made Easter egg maracas with washi tape and dried beans! The kids absolutely loved this activity!
The math table- Here we held flower garden math, where we placed the correct number of pom poms into numbered cupcake liner flowers.
Books we read as a class this week included:
Franklin and the Thunderstorm
Mossy
The Little Raindrop
The Little Sunflower
We would like to remind everyone that with the end of the school year quickly approaching, ( can you believe it?! ) we are holding camp throughout the summer, each with it's own uniquely fun and exciting theme. We hope to see some of our friends from class there! We hope that you all have a lovely rest of your weekend, and we will see you again next week!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Mackenzie and Mrs. Haynes
