Good afternoon everyone!
I hope that you are all doing well and enjoying the sunshine today! This week our class continued to learn about spring and the signs of its arrival. We talked a lot about the different animals and creatures that will soon begin to emerge, and their importance to the ecosystem. We also learned about the letter R; next week we will learn the letter S! On Wednesday we had our monthly visit from the lovely mrs. T., where we sang along to St.Patrick's Day themed songs and danced to an array of music, accompanied by Pete the Cat! As always, the children had a wonderful time!
Here is a look at what we did in centers this week:
The art table- Here the class used paper cut into various shapes to create their own unique insects! We then began working on an April showers themed craft that we will continue with next week, where we used dot markers, construction paper, and paper plates to make umbrellas.
The discovery center- The class loved this center this week! We used magnifying glasses and a microscope to explore different insects in acrylic molds. This activity was accompanied by a nonfiction book on over one hundred different species of insects and invertebrates.
The art easel- The children used their hands to paint "mud" with brown paint, and then later worked on their scissor skills by cutting and gluing worms onto their artwork.
Later in the week we water color painted butterfly images!
The math table- This week we used dot markers and ink to stamp caterpillar bodies beside numbered heads.
The books we read in class this week included:
Spring For Sophie
Spring is Here- A Bear and Mole Story
Pinkalicious
Grumpy Monkey- Spring Fever
Fair to say these first weeks of Spring have been great ones! We're excited for all the fun and learning we will continue to share in the weeks ahead! Enjoy the rest of your weekend, and we will see everyone again next week!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Mackenzie and Mrs. Haynes
