Hello everyone and happy Sunday!
I hope that you are all enjoying the weekend. This past week in class we continued learning about patterns and rhyming words, and learned about the letter P. We also began to learn about St. Patrick's day! The class loved learning about silly, mischievous leprechauns, and tried to come up with ideas on how to catch one! I told the class that usually these little guys are very fast and almost impossible to catch, but last year there were some very promising signs of one having visited the classroom! Next week's letter of the week will be Q, and Tuesday is our fourth of July vs. St. Patrick's day spirit day! This coming Friday is also crazy sock day, which is held in celebration of down syndrome awareness day. Here is a look at what we did in class last week:
The art table- Here the class used marble painting techniques to craft green eggs, from Dr. Seuss' Green Eggs and Ham. We then began working on a leprechaun paper plate craft.
The art easel- Here the class used pool noodle pieces, green dot stickers, and hole punched circles to create a different variation of green eggs! We also included coloring pages and free draw with markers this week.
The math table- We counted and matched numbered green eggs with corresponding amounts of pom poms.
The discovery center- The kids had an amazing time making oobleck this week, from Dr. Seuss' Bartholomew and the Oobleck! This fun sensory experiment was loved by all and they were very excited to bring some home. Later in the week we used colored stones to create patterns from picture cards- the class not only had fun with this but also did a great job creating the patterns!
At the listening center this week the class followed along with a read aloud of Pete The Cat's Four Groovy Buttons. This new center has been very busy since its addition to center time.
This week in class we read:
Green Eggs and Ham
The Pout Pout Fish- Lucky Leprechaun
Pete the Cat- The Great Leprechaun Chase
I hope that you all enjoy the rest of your weekend, and look forward to seeing everyone back at school! We also look forward to seeing those of you attending the Spaghetti Supper this week! It is sure to be a lot of fun with some yummy food, bingo, and fantastic raffle prizes!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Mackenzie and Mrs. Haynes
