Last Week of April in Pre-K 1

Hi Everyone,

It was so nice to see the children after April Vacation. We were able to get outside for recess and enjoyed some warm sunshine on Wednesday.

Our Reading Street Book this week was Fishy Tales. This book takes "young readers in the deep blue sea to discover fish swimming through the coral reefs, starfish on the sandy ocean floor and jellyfish floating up and down in the waves". The children really enjoyed the photographs in this book. Our Reading Street Song was Who Lives in the Sea? Our vocabulary words were dolphin, octopus, sea, sea horse, shark and starfish.

Our Letter of the Week was Z. Our Letter Sound Song was Zip and Zigzag to the Zoo. This song was sung to the tune of B-I-N-G-O...and the children were very excited to spell Z-E-B-R-A.

We also read Animal Strike at the Zoo by Karma Wilson and listened to Froggy Builds a Treehouse by Jonathan London.

Other activities:

Math Table: Roll & Cover....roll the dice and stamp the number on worksheet that you rolled with the dot marker

Discovery: Building with toothpicks and marshmallows....this was the place to be. Towers, tents, school buses, camp fires with smores and shapes were just some of the things being made.

Project Table: Popular finger painting was back....this time there were photographs of zinnias for the children to see and then they could create one.

Art Easel: Free Art....the children were making some of the animals that had been on strike from our story.

This was the last week for our Pizza Shop, yellow play doh and beans in the sensory bins. These centers will be different for the month of May when we return to school.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Kelley
