April Awesomeness in 5 Day Pre-K!

Hello All,

Our Reading Street Book was What Do You Do With a Tail Like This? by Steve Jenkins. "Steven Jenkins and illustrator Robin Page explore the many amazing things animals can do with eyes, ears, mouth noses, feet and tails. Young readers will relish the mystery behind this interactive guessing book." The children truly enjoyed guessing what the animal was and what they did with their body part without seeing the whole animal. We continue to work on the skill of compare and contrast...as we read about different things, we talk about how they are alike and how they are different.

We reviewed letters M & N. An extra week was just what we needed to practice the correct formation of these letters. The children also enjoyed another week of singing Merry Mama Mouse and Gramma Mole and On A November Night Night Night.

We read Little Raindrop by Melanie Joyce and The Berenstain Bears and the Trouble with Friends by Stan & Jan Bernstain.

On Picture Day, we read Picture Perfect? which was written and illustrated by the second grade students of Fletcher Walker Elementary in Westwood, California. The children really liked the idea of a book being by children.

Other activities included:

Project Table: The children were able to create their own book.

Also, watercolors were available to paint with.

We created a special project for Mrs. Lay's Bulletin Board.  See if your child can remember what vegetable we were making.

Listening Center: Picture Day Perfection by Deborah Diesen.

Math Table: Tweezer Task Transportation Measurement. We combined fine motor skills, math fluency and measurement by using tweezers to grasp transportation vehicles and move them to the card.

Discovery Table: Rain Experiment.

Art Easel:  Spring worksheets and markers

Sensory Table:  Water beads, scoops, bowls

Blocks: We now have large tinker toys. This is a HIT!  It is so great to see the children's imaginations hard at work as they are building. Exercise equipment was being built, bikes for one, two and even a bike for five, motorcycles, stick bugs, cameras & the children were photographers.

Today was an exciting day in our classroom!  Goldfish Swim School was in to visit. Mr. Forrest and Bubbles the fish taught us all about water safety.

If you are looking for something fun to do this morning, The Family Fun Fair will be at the Attleboro High School (1 Blue Pride Way-AHS Cafeteria, enter through the back of the school) from 9:30-11:30. This is a free event with plenty of free fun activities for the kids. Face painting, balloon animals, story walk, free used books and our own Mrs. Lay will be there representing Jack and Jill!

Looking ahead, we will not be having a letter of the week next week. There is no school on Friday, April 12th.

Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Kelley
