Feeling Like Spring In 5 Day Pre-K!

Hello All,

We listened to our Reading Street book this week. It was Cassie's Word Quilt by Faith Ringgold. "Join Cassie, as she takes readers on a tour of her home, neighborhood and school, introducing dozens of new words & their meanings. Young readers will relish the beautifully designed spreads, each with it's own quilt motif." The children enjoyed looking for the words in the illustrations on each page as we listened to the book.

Our Reading Street Song was I Live In The City. Our vocabulary words were apartment, closet, bedroom, quilt, classmates and picnic. We also read Mrs. McNosh Hangs Up Her Wash by Sarah Weeks and The Way I Feel by Janan Cain.

Our Letter of the Week was W. Our Letter Sound Song was Walk This Way In Wet Weather.

Other activities:

Project Table:  Painting a watermelon-there was red and green paint and black beans that could be added as seeds. Some slices had many seeds, others just a few.

Clothesline Project-the children could create their own "wash" to put on the clothesline. They drew, cut and worked hard with their fingers to open the clothespins to hang the wash on their line. One friend brought over the book to try to copy the items that Mrs. McNosh from our story hung on her clothesline.

Art Easel:  White paper and crayons on Monday and Tuesday. Then a circle that the children could turn into anything they wanted.

Math Table:  Watermelon Math-put the correct number of seeds on the watermelon.

Listening Center: Ten Little Caterpillars.

Discovery Table:  Sorting recycling items to go along with Earth Day!

Puzzle and Games: New items-Zoob BuilderZ and Hexie Snaps. Two children worked hard at connecting all of the Zoob BuilderZ and their creation was longer than the length of our classroom!

On Friday, we were lucky to have a visit with Mrs. T! We passed the Earth as we sang songs for Earth Day, did carrot counting, bunny hopping and sang Little Bunny Foo Foo.

Show & Tell for Letter X will be on Thursday.

Enjoy the rest of your day!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Kelley
