Hello Families,
Important Information for the upcoming week:
Our next Spirit Day will be on Tuesday. It is St. Patrick's Day vs 4th of July.
Show & Tell for letter A will be on Thursday.
We are participating in World Down Syndrome Day on Friday. Please wear bright, colorful or mismatched socks. This fun tradition helps celebrate inclusion, diversity and the amazing individuals with Down Syndrome in our community and beyond.
Spaghetti Supper/Candy Bingo is on Friday night. Even if you cannot make it to the event, there will be tickets for sale leading up to it for the opportunity baskets. There are SOOO many great prizes!
Our Reading Street Book this week was Whatever the Weather by Karen Wallace. Our Reading Street Song was What's The Weather Like? Our vocabulary words were weather, storm, cold, warm, snow and bending. We talked about all different types of weather.
We also read Little Cloud by Eric Carle and Little Raindrop by Melanie Joyce.
Our Letter of the Week was K. Our Letter Sound Song was Brick by Brick.
Other activities included:
Sensory Table: Kinetic sand, construction vehicles and molds
Play Doh: Green with gold coins, rollers, cutters, scissors and cookie cutters.
Discovery Table: The children were very excited to build with suction building pieces. Fun was had while strengthening fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination and finger strength by pushing and pulling the pieces.
Writing Table: I Can Draw books, K worksheets and K books and writing utensils, scissors, markers and crayons were available.
Project Table: K is for key. The children were able to decorate keys, used hole punchers to punch a hole and thread and twist pipe cleaners to make key chains.
K is for kangaroos. The children were able to put together pieces and make their own kangaroo.
K is for kaleidoscope. The children were able to decorate a tube which we turned into a kaleidoscope. They were very excited to look through and see the patterns.
Art Easel: We started the week with free art at the easel. Then changed to cloud art based on the book Little Cloud by Eric Carle. This story is about all the different shapes we can see when we look at the clouds and use our imaginations. Each child created their own work of art based on this story. These will be on our bulletin board for you to check out.
Listening Center: By request, Footprints In The Snow was available here.
Also, if you heard we had a "rap battle" in our classroom, this is true! A couple friends had asked me if they could do this. It turned into more of a dance off & everyone in our class enjoyed it! It is so nice to see the children excited, proud and confident to be able to stand up and perform in front of the class.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kelley
