Good evening everyone! This week we had a blast in class. We continued to talk about fall and the changes that come with it, and continue to work on routines as a class. The kids are all doing really great at this point! This past Tuesday we had a visit from Firefighter Nick to help celebrate community helpers month, and the kids had a wonderful time learning from him! Here is a look at what we did in class this week-
Art table- Here the class used real corn on the cob to paint! They absolutely loved this activity! We then glued construction paper husks on to complete the project-these are now hanging on the bulletin board in the hallway. We also used brown crayons, markers, and colored pencils alongside torn paper to decorate paper acorns.
Art easel- The class used paint sticks and water color paints to decorate fall themed pictures and pumpkins.
Math table- the children used real pumpkin seeds as counters in a matching activity where they had to place the correct amount of seeds on numbered pumpkins.
Discovery center- This week we introduced the light table and this was a very busy center throughout the week! The class enjoyed decorating bare trees with colored leaves, acorns, and pumpkins.
We have added magnetic handwriting/tracing boards to our writing center where each child can work specifically with the letters of their name, as well as dry erase boards and free draw on blank paper.
The books we read as a class this week included:
Apple Trouble
One Windy Day
Pete the Cat- Firefighter Pete
Next week we will begin implementing a letter of the week and therefore will begin having a weekly show and tell every Tuesday and Wednesday. The letters of the week will be in alphabetical order, beginning with the letter A on Tuesday 10/14 and Wednesday 10/15.For show and tell items, please have your child bring in one small item from home that begins with the letter of the week. Show and tell items should be carried with them into the classroom in the morning with their snacks. These items should also be small enough to allow for each child to easily place them into their own mailboxes and backpacks to further independence and self help skills.
We would kindly like to remind everyone to please not line up before 12:25 at pick up, as some children are regularly picked up before the scheduled dismissal times, and church members need to be able to exit the parking lot in between as well. Thankyou for your understanding!
We hope that all of you get to enjoy a lovely long weekend, and look forward to seeing everyone again next week!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Mackenzie and Mrs. Haynes
