Hi Everyone,
We certainly fit a whole lot into our week. The children enjoyed playing in the snow. Shoveling, using pails to collect gold (chunks of ice), make snow castles, digging igloos and drawing on the snow with chalk.
On Thursday night, we had the Valentine's Dance in Fellowship Hall. It was nice to come together with students and their families. Our class certainly brought their dance moves. I was so proud of them! We also celebrated Valentine's Day in our classroom. Everyone was very excited to show off their mailboxes. They all came out wonderful! We sat in a circle and each child took a turn delivering their cards to friends. We had a special dessert at the end of the day too!
Our Reading Street book was Somebody Stole My Smile by Carmen Tafolla. Ask your child what this story was about. We talked a lot about change. Our vocabulary words were new, changes, mirror, old, growing and supper.
We also read Happy Valentine's Day Little Critter by Mercer Meyer and Pete the Cat: Valentine's Day Is Cool by James Dean.
Our Letter of the Week was B and our song was A Bunch of Baby Beavers.
Project Table: Love Bug Craft...the children covered a tube with construction paper, added eyes, punched holes and added wings
We made bracelets by threading beads onto pipe cleaners.
Love You To Pieces craft...the children were able to cut tissue paper and glue it onto the heart.
Paper strips were decorated and turned into the shape of a heart.
Bear craft...the children painted a paper plate with a sponge and then cut out pieces to turn it into a bear.
Art Easel: Dot markers were used with a heart stencils. The children were excited to remove the stencil and check out the hearts they created.
Writing Table: B Worksheets, B books, Valentine stamps, heart stickers and construction paper
Math Table: Week 2 of light table discovery
Listening Center: Berenstain Bears Funny Valentine
Discovery Table: Numbered locks with keys....the children LOVED this. They counted the washers on each key, identified the number on the lock and then opened it.
Play Doh: Pink play doh, cookie cutters, gems, rollers, scissors and cutters
Sensory Table: This table is now filled with kinetic sand. There are cups, molds, shovels and construction vehicles.
Pretend Center: The kitchen continued to be busy! The children loved making meals for each other and cleaning the area and washing dishes!
I hope you all have a wonderful February vacation. I will see you on Monday, February 23rd.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kelley
