Out in the Snow in Pre-K!

Hello Families!

I am hoping that all of our friends that were out sick are beginning to feel better!

Some important information regarding the weather:

For the foreseeable future, all children must come to school each day with full snow gear. Even if we are unable to go outside on certain days. New England weather changes very quickly and we want every child to be prepared whenever outdoor play is possible. Please send waterproof mittens as many children were complaining their hands were wet when we played in the snow this week.

Additionally, we ask that snow gear be sent back dry the following day, as putting on cold, wet mittens, snow pants or boots is no fun for anyone!

With the approaching storm, this is also a reminder that if Attleboro Public Schools are closed, Jack and Jill will also be closed. No email will be sent in the event of a weather closure, but a message will be posted on our school Facebook page.

Our Reading Street book this week was Close Your Eyes by Kate Banks. "The little tiger lay on his back in the tall grass. Close your eyes, little tiger said his mother and go to sleep. But the little tiger is worried what sleep might bring. HIs mother reassures him that once he closes his eyes he will dream of magical places. And when he awakens, she will be right there, waiting for him."

Our Reading Street song was Little Stripes, The Tiger.

Our vocabulary words were dreams, mountains, stretched, catch, ocean and stripes.

Our Letter of the Week was J. Our Letter Sound song was Jump, Jump, Jump for Joy.

We listened to There Was A Cold Lady Who Swallowed Some Snow! by Lucille Colandro.

We also read Jabari Jumps, Eyes That Kiss In The Corners and Snow Day.

The children had a lot of fun playing house in our Pretend Center this week. They were setting the table, cooking food, sharing a meal together and cleaning up!

Other activities included:

Art Easel: Blue paper, pastel paint sticks and snowflake stickers

Project Table: J is for jellyfish-the children painted their jellyfish, decorated it, punched holes and thread ribbon for tentacles.

Jeweled J: the children cut out the letter J and then glued MANY jewels to it

Snowman Ruler: we turned a paint stick into a snowman ruler. We talked a lot about measurements and using it to measure as it snows today!

Math Table: Counting objects...identifying the number on the cup and filling it with the correct number of wooden discs.

Discovery Table: Magnifying glasses with crystals and magnifying containers with different objects to check out

Sensory Table: Arctic Sensory Table

We also brought real snow into the classroom after rest time twice this week. The children were able to mold it, scoop, fill and dump and paint it. As one child said, this would never be allowed at my house-lol!

Looking ahead, Show & Tell for Letter D will be on Thursday. Also, Jack and Jill's Open House will be on Saturday, January 31st from 9:30-11:30 if you or anyone you know is interested in stopping by!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Kelley
