Hello everyone!
I hope that you are all doing well and enjoying the weekend so far, despite these frigid temperatures! This week our class enjoyed exploring with light and shadows, discussing the letter K, and enjoying some time in the snow! This week we had a friend whose snow pants were misplaced, so please if you can take the time to double check the things your children went home with it would be appreciated. Here is a look at what we did in centers this week:
The art table- the class made Bear from Bear Snores on out of paper plates and construction paper, and then made bear caves with paper bowls, pom pom "bears" and cotton ball snow.
The art easel- We watercolor painted the characters from the Bear collection and then glued them onto construction paper caves.
The math table- The children sorted polar animals into igloos based on color and number correspondence.
The discovery center- The class absolutely loved using flashlights to discover the different effects light can have on various objects! They learned how a light source from a distance caused a shadow to be smaller, while a light source at a closer distance changed their shadows into something much larger! We also had a book on shadow puppets that the class used to make their own shapes and shadows. The children then used white chalk on black construction paper to draw what they had observed.
The books we read as a class this week included:
Bear Snores On
Bear Feels Sick
Playing With Light and shadows
During music and movement times we listened to an array of songs including the Silly Bear Hunt, a class favorite!
Next week's letter of the week will be L.
For the foreseeable future, all children must come to school each day with full snow gear. Even if we are unable to go outside on certain days, New England weather changes very quickly, and we want every child to be prepared whenever outdoor play is possible.
Additionally, we ask that snow gear be sent back dry the following day, as putting on cold, wet mittens, snow pants or boots is no fun for anyone!
With the approaching storm, this is also a reminder that if Attleboro Public Schools are closed, Jack and Jill Preschool will also be closed. No email will be sent in the event of a weather closure, but a message will be posted on our school Facebook page.
I hope that all of you have a fun, safe weekend, and we look forward to seeing all of you again next week!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Mackenzie and Mrs. Haynes
