Winter Fun Continues in 5 Day Pre-K!
Hello Everyone,
We squeezed a lot into our four day week. We had a lot of fun playing in the snow on Tuesday. It was snowing as we were outside and the children had so much fun trying to catch snow on their tongues as it fell. At the end of recess, it turned from snow to rain and we talked about why this happened. The super cold temperatures kept us inside the rest of the week but that did not stop us from getting exercise and having fun. Today, we did an indoor obstacle course which included a balance beam, hopscotch, jumping jack station, balance board and a stretching station. The children LOVED it!
Our Reading Street Book this week was Close Your Eyes by Kate Banks. "The little tiger lay on his back in the tall grass.
Close your eyes little tiger said his mother and go to sleep. But the little tiger is worried about what sleep might bring. His mother reassures him that once he closes his eyes he will dream of magical places. And when he awakens, she will be right there, waiting for him."
Our Reading Song was Little Stripes, the Tiger. Our vocabulary words were dreams, mountains, stretched, catch, ocean and stripes.
Our Letter of the Week was D. Our song was Did Old Dandy Dog Dig in the Dirt?
By request, we listened to There Was a Cold Lady Who Swallowed Some Snow again. We also read If You Give A Dog A Donut by Laura Numeroff, How Do Dinosaurs Go To School by Jane Yolen, and danced to Laurie Berkner's We Are the Dinosaurs.
Other activities in our classroom this week were:
Discovery: Q Tip Snowflakes
Project Table: D is for Dog......the children could make a dog out of the letter D.
We couldn't get back outside to make a snowman but we made Olaf's inside.
Art Easel: Water color dinosaurs and dot marker donuts.
Math Table: Number Scavenger Hunt
Listening Center: How Do Dinosaurs Go To School by Jane Yolen.
Looking ahead our Letter of the Week will be P. Show & Tell will be on Wednesday.
Valentine's Day Info ❤
We will be celebrating Valentine's Day at school on Wednesday, February 14th. We will be exchanging valentines in our classroom. We have 10 children in our class. As far as delivering cards it is easiest if you send in the valentines just signed by who it is from and leave the "to" blank. We are a nut-free school and are asking that food and candy not be sent with the valentines. Stickers, tattoos, pencils, etc are a good alternative if you would like.
Also, please send in a Valentine mailbox for your child. The children can make this out of a box (tissue box/shoebox) or bag. Please make sure to put your child's name on their mailbox. Feel free to even put their picture on it. Have fun making it!
Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kelley
