Welcome to Pre-K!
I would like to extend a warm welcome to you all! We had a very busy week getting back into the school routine. The children are doing a great job & seemed to be having a lot of fun!
A couple school wide reminders:
Please check your family mailbox at least weekly for important school wide information.
Label everything: Please be sure to clearly label all items your child brings to school-especially water bottles, lunch boxes, jackets and backpacks. Many children have similar (or identical) items and labeling helps us make sure everything gets back to the right owner.
Shorts under dresses: For comfort and active play, please make sure your child wears shorts or bike shorts under dresses and skirts.
On Monday, please begin displaying the name card in your windshield for pick-up. This will help to identify each family during dismissal. The cards were placed in your family mailbox on Thursday. Please let us know if your family needs any additional cards.
This week we read The Night Before Preschool by Natasha Wing and listened to Pete The Cat I Love My White Shoes by Eric Litwin.
On Thursday, we talked about one of our school rules which is "Take Care of our Things". We specifically talked about our school books, the correct way to hold and flip through the books so that we are taking care of them. I introduced taking a picture walk through a book. This is a strategy where you look through a book's illustrations before reading. We took a picture walk through Click, Clack, Quack to School by Doreen Cronin & Betsy Lewin. We discussed who the characters in the book were, what we thought was happening and how they felt. On Friday, I read this book with the 5 Day PreK students.
Of course we have also been having fun during our center time which included:
Discovery Table: Magnetic sensory bottles
Math Table: Counting mats-numbered fish bowls with fish.
Play Dough: We have blue play dough. The children have been busy rolling it out, using the cookie cutters and scissors. The jewels and shells are very popular! Many cakes, cookies and bread were being made.
Pretend Center: The kitchen has been a hit! The children have been busy making meals and taking care of the babies. A couple of children were packing the diaper bags and they moved chairs in a row because they were heading to Disney in their car.
Sensory Table: Our table is full of kinetic sand, sifters, scoopers, bowls, pails and molds of sea creatures and sand castles.
Art Easel: Free art-white paper and water colors were available.
Project Table: The children were very excited to stamp their hands for the First Day of School project. I hope you liked this keepsake. We also worked on decorating our own "white shoe" like Pete the Cat. Coloring, gluing, punching holes, lacing! These will be hanging on display on our bulletin board in the hallway on Monday.
Writing Table: Doodle boards, scratch cards, fish to color and white paper were available.
For 5 Day Pre-K:
I will be sending the children's blankets for Rest Time home at the end of each week. Please launder and send the blanket back in on Monday. Please make sure the blanket is labeled with your child's name and is small enough that it can be packed by your child in their backpack.
This week we made I Rocked My First Day of Pre-K crowns, sun visors and Patriots flags for Opening Day tomorrow! We also worked on drawing images from our book Click, Clack, Quack to School. Lots of crafts and fun but also working on our fine motor skills and letter identification at the same time!
If you have any questions or concerns at any time please feel free to contact me.
Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kelley
