Another Great Week in Older Preschool!

Good Evening Everyone!!

Another great week here in Older Preschool. One of our big goals in preschool is helping children become more independent with everyday tasks. Encouraging self help skills like zipping coats & backpacks, cleaning up after play, handwashing, and blowing noses (to name a few) can really help build their confidence and independence. You can support this at home by giving your child some extra time to try these things on their own before stepping in to help (:

Here are some schoolwide reminders:

  • Label everything: Please be sure to clearly label all items your child brings to school — especially water bottles, lunch boxes, jackets, and backpacks. Many children have similar (or identical) items, and labeling helps us make sure everything gets back to the right owner.

  • Water bottles that are left in the classroom can only have water in it. If your child wants to have juice or something else in their water bottle, they will have to put it in their bag and take it back out at lunch.

Another tip for both snack and lunch: if possible can you send any fruits/vegetables already peeled to make snack and lunch easier. Also, including a napkin in the lunchbox is very helpful for the students to practice table manners. Thank you for your help with this.

The books we read this week were: If you Give a Pig a Pancake, Clifford's Manners, and The Perfect Fit. We read most books twice so both sets of children get to hear them.

Centers

Listening Center: Chicks and Salsa.

Playdough Table: Green playdough with letters, cutters, rollers and scissors.

Dramatic Play: Barn with barn animals, we added a new piggie this week.

Art Table: Make a tractor & Build your own barn. (most of the barns are still drying).

Science/Math table: Shape Sorting, color puzzle & life cycle of a chicken.

Sensory Table: It has farm animals and shovels filled with corn and beans.

Art Easel: tractor coloring sheet & color recognition sheet with markers.

Writing Table: Traceable tractor lines & cut and paste: What goes in a barn and what goes in a house?

We always have blocks, puzzles, and writing boards available during centers. We added some fidgets this week. The children are still loving the toy barn with animals so we kept that at blocks and added some tractors to go with it.

If anyone wants to donate hand sanitizer or tissues to our classroom that would be greatly appreciated.

If you have any questions or concerns don't hesitate to reach out. Enjoy your weekend.

Warmly,

Mrs. Derbyshire & Mrs. Deighan
