Hello Younger Preschool Families,
I hope that everyone has enjoyed their week. This week in class we continued to work on classroom routines and expectations, with a focus on social emotional learning. The class learned about different emotions, how to recognize them in themselves and others, and how to use different methods in order to express them in positive ways. We will continue to incorporate this focus into our everyday learning throughout the remainder of the year. Here is what took place in centers this week:
The math table- here the class sorted multicolored pom poms into emotions monsters labeled cups.
The art table- here we learned about shapes and used them to create "shape monsters". We also included free art, stamps with differently emoted faces, and also created fall apple trees. The kids were really excited to begin practicing their gluing skills while making these!
The art easel- the class watercolor painted the color monster from the book we read on Monday and Tuesday this week.
The discovery center- Monday and Tuesday we included cotton rounds with color coded happy, sad, and angry faces, where the kids used droppers and dyed water to create and observe the reactions of water on marker and absorption. For the second half of the week we used sensory bottles and magnetic face boards.
The books we read in class this week included:
The Color Monster
The Very Hungry Caterpillar
This is Pete The Cat
This week we moved along to Animal Action 2, and The Beanbag Boogie. The class loved these songs and dances!
Thankyou all for a wonderful start to the school year. Have a great weekend and we will see you again next week! Pictures from the week are attached below.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Mackenzie and Mrs. Haynes
