Ending October in Younger Preschool!

Hello everyone,

I hope that you all had a fun filled Halloween! This week we enjoyed many holiday themed activities in class and even carved our own pumpkin! This week our letter of the week was C, next week we will be talking about the letter D. We loved seeing everyone's show and tell items from home, and the children were so glad to talk about their items with the class. Here is a look at what we did in class this week!

The art table- here the class painted and decorated their own pumpkins to take home. We also bubble painted witch cauldrons, used Halloween stamps, and colored Halloween themed coloring pages-Bluey was definitely a favorite with all!

The easel- the class used Halloween cookie cutters to stamp ghosts, pumpkins, and cats onto blank paper.

The math table- we counted spiders and placed them on numbered spider web plates.

The discovery center- here we had a spider rescue activity where the class used tweezers to extract spiders from a webbed container.

The dramatic play center now holds puppets, and a puppet show theatre, along with some familiar characters and books to go along with them. I'd say this has been the most loved dramatic play theme we have had so far this year! We have adored the performances and stories the class has come up with at this center!

This week along with carving a pumpkin with both classes, we performed an erupting jack-o-lantern experiment, where our friend Jack had a little too much candy! We also ate lunch on Thursday and Friday by jack-o-lantern light.

The books we read in class this week included-

                                                    Room on the Broom

How do Dinosaurs Trick or Treat

The Little Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly

                                                    Germs Are Not for Sharing

Songs we listened to for music and movement this week included-

                                                    Spooky Scary Skeletons

                                                    The Monster Mash

                                                    The Skeleton Bone Dance

                                                    The Ghostbusters theme song!

This week we held many class discussions on germs and how we can work hard to prevent ourselves and others from getting sick by participating in several self-care practices. We have discussed how to catch our sneezes and coughs, washing our hands correctly and at appropriate times, and dressing appropriately for different types of weather. With cold and flu season fast approaching, we will continue to emphasize these points daily. The class is doing a great job getting used to putting on their own jackets. Ask your child about our school saying, "Tag to toes, arms through the holes, and up over the head it goes!" I hope that you all enjoy the rest of your weekend, we can't wait to hear all about it next week!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Mackenzie and Mrs. Haynes
