Hey May in Enrichment!

Hi everyone!

First, we want to thank you all for the generous and thoughtful gifts this week. We're grateful for you all!

Next, I want to fill you in on/remind you of some important dates this month.

5/15- In-school field trip (the kids don't know about this yet)- Mystic Aquarium is coming for a visit!

5/29- NO SCHOOL

5/31- Last day of school

Graduation- for those going to Kindergarten in the Fall

Our book this week was Make Way For Ducklings by Robert McCloskey. This beautiful, classic story about Mr. and Mrs. Mallard flying around Boston, trying to find the perfect spot to build their nest, and bring up their ducklings, is a perfect intro to Spring in New England. Also, the names of the ducklings might be my favorite part! It is, however, a LONG book. So we introduced our oh-so-helpful BOOKMARK! That may not seem like much, but a bookmark opens up new doors to reading. 1. You don't have to finish it all at once. 2. It gets you imagining about what might happen next. 3. You have to use your memory to remember what happened the last time you read. 4. It gives the opportunity for more complex stories. Yay for bookmarks!

What was NEW in centers?

Art- By painting some waves, and drawing themselves, we are surfing into Summer!

Easel- The children colored their own ducklings.

Math- With a clipboard, pencil, and a guide the children searched the room to find all the ducklings from our book, and write the first letter or the whole name in the individual ducks.

Playdough- Our playdough table transformed into a bridge building experiment today! Someone asked "How do you build a bridge?" during the morning meeting, and we gave them the opportunity to find out!

Discovery- We welcomed some caterpillar friends into our room! We'll have lots of fun watching them grow and change during the next few weeks!

May is a busy month that will be filled with new adventures, and explorations! Hold on tight! It goes by fast!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Warmly,

Ashlee Taylor, Erica Derbyshire, and Christina Renoni
