Hey May in Pre-K 1!

Dear Pre-K 1 Families,

Thank you all for your very generous and thoughtful gifts for Teacher Appreciation Week! I felt very spoiled! A special thank you to Jess Wilton & Kim Tinkham for decorating the classroom door over the weekend. It was such a wonderful surprise to come in and see on Monday morning. I attached a picture so you all can see it.

Our Reading Street Book this week was Fishy Tales. This book takes "young readers in the deep blue sea to discover fish swimming through the coral reefs, starfish on the sandy ocean floor and jellyfish floating up and down in the waves". The children really enjoyed the photographs in this book. They had fun acting out the sea life we read about.

Our Reading Street Song was Who Lives in the Sea? Our vocabulary words were dolphin, octopus, sea, sea horse, shark and starfish.

We reviewed letters of the alphabet during our Morning Circle each day this week. We also did Mat Man on the rug.

We read Chicka, Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr, The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle and How Full Is Your Bucket by Rath & Mary Reckmeyer.

Other activities included:

Art Easel: Metallic Painting

Project Table: Free Art and bracelet making

Math Table: Tweezer Tong Color Sorting-by squeezing the tongs the children were able to pick up different color balls and drop them into plastic tubes. They had great fun sorting by color and making patterns (all the while strengthening their hands).

Discovery Table: On Monday and Tuesday, there were prisms and kaleidoscopes to check out. On Wednesday, I put out our class caterpillars. Over the next few weeks we will watch the process of the caterpillars turning into butterflies.

Our Sensory Table is now filled with sand, shovels, buckets, rakes and many of the sea creatures from our Reading Street book this week.

Our Pizza Shop in our Pretend Center now has 2 options for dining. We have a new cash register with a microphone. It is being used to take orders for the drive-thru. The children have been lining up chairs as cars for the drive-thru. And the wait staff continues to take the orders of the customers at the table.

I hope you have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Kelley
