It's November in 5 Day Pre-K!

Hello All,

We had a busy week in our classroom. On Tuesday, each child was able to pick a pumpkin and decorate it. Everyone worked really hard at cutting, peeling, tying, twisting and gluing items to decorate their pumpkin.

The children voted as to which book we would read again this week. The choices were Spookley The Square Pumpkin or Room on the Broom. Spookley won by one vote. We also read From Seed to Pumpkin by Wendy Pfeffer, Hippo Says Excuse Me by Michael Dahl and Froggy Eats Out by Jonathan London.

We took a break from the Reading Street Curriculum to read some books on important skills we are trying to work on as a class. These are active listening and manners.

At the Pretend Center, I added golf tees, hammers and a pumpkin. The children worked hard at hammering the tees into the pumpkin. We then added elatics they could stretch acroos the tees. The toolboxes and construction workers were on the move. From Pretend to Blocks, building, sawing, having fun!

Math Table: Geoboards

Art Easel: We started the week with Halloween stamps and markers. On Thursday and Friday, there were umbrellas to paint with watercolors.

Project Table: Halloween stickers and black construction paper to decorate.

Pumpkin Life Cycle....coloring and sequencing the pumpkin life cycle. This was very popular.

Discovery: Two science experiments were done. A pumpkin volcano was made using baking soda, dish soap, food coloring and vinegar. Then the ingredients were used in a water bottle with a deflated balloon attached. When the ingredients were mixed together the balloon inflated.

Our Letter of the Week was U. Our song was Glub, Glub, Guppies in a Tub. We listened to the story Click Clack Boo.

On Wednesday, Mrs. Brown from the Attleboro Public Library came in to visit us. She explained to the children that she is a Librarian and what she does; helps people and does outreach by visiting schools. She read How Do Dinosaurs Learn to Read? by Jane Yolen. Mrs. Brown told us that it is "Dinovember" at the library. We are very lucky to have such a wonderful library in Attleboro. Please go check it out!

This week:

Tuesday-80's Spirit Day

Wednesday-Show & Tell for letter C

Friday-No school in observance of Veteran's Day

Sincerely,

Mrs. Kelley
