Learning in a Winter Wonderland in Mixed Age!

Hello Mixed Age Families,

We had a wonderful week at school! The class did a wonderful job getting dressed independently in their snow gear and had  so much fun outside! We are moving into a more structured Mixed Age daily routine. Last week we introduced the planning chart to the class. The children are doing great with this. The reason we are using the planning chart is to help the children move about the classroom and take turns in the different centers. We are also starting a letter of the week and show and tell! We will go through the alphabet and touch upon letter sounds, this will prepare the children for more focused letter learning next school year. Show and tell will begin next week and will be based on the letter of the week. Show and tell can be brought in on Tuesday or Wednesday depending on which day your child attends. Please only send in one item that starts with the letter of the week. Next week’s letter of the week will be C. We have also began our Seeds of STEM curriculum. This curriculum is specifically designed for preschool students. Our first unit is problem solving. We talked about different simple problems and solutions, they are great problem solvers!

Mr. G came to read to us on Monday. He read Rainbow Fish. They class loved the pictures in this book.

We also read Pigloo by Anne Marie Pace and Sledding by Elizabeth Winthrop. We are doing multiple reads of the same story to help with comprehension.

On Thursday Mrs. G visited us for music and movement. This class sure does love to move and groove. 😊

Here’s a look at our centers this week!

Dramatic play: The children continue to enjoy ice skating and hot chocolate

Math: Hot chocolate and marshmallow math

Art Table: Paper plate banana with tissue paper

Easel: Decorate a winter hat with stickers

I hope that you all enjoy the long weekend. We are closed Monday in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr Day. I look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday. A friendly reminder that registration opens Tuesday morning.

Warmly,

Katrina Lay
