Good evening everyone,
I hope that you have all had a good week. This week in class the students were very busy! We began letter of the week, and everyone was so excited to bring in their show and tell items beginning with the letter A! We learned about many different words that begin with the letter A, and practiced the phonetic sound of the letter throughout the week. We also had a special visit from another community helper, Mrs. Sheila from a dentist's office! The children loved learning about how they can help take care of their teeth, and were especially excited to help brush Mrs.Sheila's dinosaur friend's teeth to practice! Here is a look at what we did in centers this week-
The art table- the class made fall lanterns, five little pumpkins sitting on a gate craft, and their own Spookley the square pumpkin.
The math table- here the children participated in a pumpkin themed math activity where they used cube counters to build numerals between one and ten pictured on cards.
The easel- here we used white dot stickers to create Halloween ghosts!
The discovery center- the class used small bowls to scoop orange dyed rice in order to fill differently sized jack-o-lantern containers. They were able to distinguish between containers that held more and/or less, and learned the difference between small, medium, and large amounts. This center was a favorite this week!
Some of the books we read as a class this week included:
Spookley The Square Pumpkin
Five Little Pumpkins
Silly Lullaby
Next week we will continue our letter of the week and show and tell, focusing on the letter B!
I hope that you all get to enjoy a pleasant weekend, and we look forward to seeing those of you attending the fall festival tomorrow! Thank you to all of you who have given your time to help make this event an even more special one, we appreciate you very much!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Mackenzie and Mrs. Haynes
