Good evening Mixed Age families,
These final days of school are really flying by, and we have been cherishing every moment in the Mixed Age classroom. This week we celebrated the children with summer birthdays and enjoyed a special treat. Next Monday and Tuesday I will be buying popsicles as a special end of the year treat for both classes; if you would prefer that your child not have one please reach out and let us know. Next week is sure to be a fun filled one! Here is a review of our week:
At the art table: the class made handprint and popsicle stick "flags" in celebration of memorial day. Here they also used red markers, construction paper and paper plates to make summer watermelon pieces.
At the easel we used red, white, and blue paint as well as crayons later in the week to decorate paper stars.
At the math table the children played watermelon math games that included matching, counting, sorting, and even adding! They did great with this activity.
At the discovery center we had a letter themed treasure hunt where the kids used tweezers to locate letters hidden in sand. Everyone enjoyed hunting for the letters represented on their cards and then loved searching for the letters of their names.
We continued to practice our graduation songs throughout the week, and although this will only be put into practice this year by three of our friends in class moving on to kindergarten, eventually everyone will have their chance to perform these songs when they too graduate!
The books we read in class this week included:
Dogs Love Cars
The Bernstein Bears and the Big Red Kite
Keep Trying Little Zebra
With next week being our final week of school, we will be taking part in many fun activities! With Wednesday being music with Mrs .T., we would like to allow the class to bring in one small stuffed animal that can fit into their backpacks on both that Wednesday and on Thursday. We hope that you all get to enjoy a pleasant weekend and look forward to seeing you next week for our final days of school!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Mackenzie and Mrs. Haynes
