Good evening everyone!
I hope that you are all well. This week we had a lot of fun in class. We had a very special visit from Sean Winbourne for community helper month, where he talked to the children about his job working for the United States Army. The children loved his visit, thank you Sean for coming! Today we also had our very first visit from the wonderful Mrs.T, who will be coming in for music, dancing, and stories throughout the remainder of the year! Today we danced along to fall and Halloween themed songs and stories. The class had a great time with her and were wonderful listeners! Next week's letter of the week will be the letter C.
Here is what we did in centers this week:
The art table- here the class made Jack O'Lanterns with puffy paint, used Halloween stamps, and colored Bear coloring pages that reinforced the letter of the week.
The easel- the class used stickers to decorate witch hats- they loved wearing these around the classroom and seeing themselves in the mirror.
The math table- the class used magic erase markers to trace and practice their numbers, and also used plastic chain counters to create pumpkin vines that corresponded with numbered pumpkin cards.
The discovery center- we had a sink or float activity where as a class we graphed predictions about what we thought may sink and or float, and then the children were able to go over and see the results themselves. Later in the week we had a pumpkin exploration activity where they were able to look at and identify parts of pumpkin, and scoop pumpkin seeds and innards out using their hands or a spoon. Some loved the feel of the pumpkin seeds and strings, while others most certainly did not!
The books we read as a class this week included-
Pete the Cat Trick or Pete
The Little Old Lady Who was Not Afraid of Anything
For music and movement this week we added songs such as the Monster Party, We're Going to the Zoo, and the Fall Freeze Dance.
Thank you to all of you for my birthday cards and gifts, I am so grateful and thankful!
We would like to remind everyone that Book Grams will be on sale in the middle room each morning next week; these will be delivered to your child the first week of November to kick off literacy month!
I hope that you all have a great weekend, and we look forward to seeing you again next week!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Mackenzie and Mrs. Haynes
