Good evening Younger Preschool families,
I hope that you are all doing well.
This week was very busy in the classroom. We continued to work on class routines and expectations and began discussing the coming of fall. Many of the children happily pointed out observations of the coming season such as the changing in the color of the leaves on the playground! Here is a look at what we did in our fall themed centers this week:
Art: The class was very busy at the art table this week, where they made apple suncatchers, Q-Tip painted apples and apple trees, and used torn construction paper and glue to make paper apples.
Math table- Here the class used tweezers to place colored pom poms into red, yellow, and green "apple trees". We also measured each student with our classroom apple chart titled; How Many Apples Tall Am I?
The easel- The class used red dot markers and regular green markers to complete apple pictures. They really loved the dot markers!
The discovery center- Monday through Wednesday we observed apples and apple parts that were accompanied by a book on how apples grow and the many types, as well as an apple parts diagram. We then had our apple taste test Thursday and Friday, where the children recorded which apples they did and/or did not like. Afterwards we created a classroom graph that showed which apples we liked best; yellow was the favorite, and green was the least favorite!
This week we also included an apple volcano experiment and included a class cooking activity where we made applesauce! This was enjoyed by all, and we hope that everyone liked their samples that were sent home. They worked hard on it! The recipe for the applesauce was sent home in their backpacks as well, in case you would like to enjoy the activity at home!
The books we read as a class this week were:
The Biggest Apple Ever
Up, Up, Up! It's Apple Picking Time
Little Mouse and The Big Red Apple
When the Leaf Blew In
As a reminder, Mrs. Lay sent out a notice earlier this week regarding our parking lot being closed on Tuesday and Wednesday. All families will have to park in the Bank Street lot and walk over for both pickup and drop off. Thankyou for your understanding!
Have a wonderful weekend, and we will see everyone next week!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Mackenzie and Mrs. Haynes
