The Final Week of May in the 3's

Good evening 3’s families,

We had another fun week at school. The highlight was releasing the butterflies! We brought the tent up to the playground, unzipped it and the butterflies flew away! The children were sad to see them go, but they loved watching the transformation from caterpillars to butterflies right in our classroom.

This week we switched gears and moved on to our Ocean Theme.

This week at CIRCLE TIME,

· We read Pete the Cat Scuba Cat, by James Dean. Pete goes scuba diving and is in search of a seahorse. He looks and looks but Pete can’t find one, but he keeps feeling a little tickle. Ask your child what the tickle was that Pete kept feeling!

· We fed shapes to the Shape Monster.

· We took attendance.

· We sang the hello song.

What’s new in CENTERS this week?

WATER PLAY!! This week, the children each had their own individual water bin to play in. They played with straining cups and little turtles. This was a big hit!

Pretend Center: Still planting and selling fruits and veggies at the Farmer’s Market.

Art: Lots of art going on this week! The children sequenced paper circles with the letters in their names to make name caterpillars. They also used puffy paint and paper fish cut-outs to make a beautiful ocean scene.

Sensory Bins: ocean-themed sand

Playdough: blue playdough, flower cutters, squeezers, scissors, letter tiles, rollers

Chalk Board: Letter matching this week on the chalkboard. The children placed letter stickers onto matching letter fish mats. For example, one fish mat had the letter A written on it. They stuck all the letter A stickers on that fish. They did the same for letters B and C.

Block Bins: Wooden blocks, magnatiles, plastic animals, car ramp and cars. We also added a farm playset with animals and little people. Lastly, we did some building with pool noodles and connectors. They had lots of fun building houses, cars, boats and more!

It’s hard to believe that next week is our LAST week. This will be our last weekly update email. We had an amazing year despite the pandemic. We want to thank you for entrusting us with your little ones during this difficult year. We cannot thank you enough for all your support and patience this year as we navigated new policies and protocols. The class of 2020-2021 will forever hold a special place in our hearts. Mrs. Renoni and I have enjoyed each special moment with your children, and we are so excited to watch them grow in the future! Please stay in touch even if your child isn’t in our class next year. We love seeing school pictures in our email inboxes of former students. Also, we are always here for your child and your family moving forward. Once a Jack-and-Jill-er, always a Jack-and-Jill-er! We hope you all have a wonderful summer!

With thanks and love,

Brenda Daday & Christina Renoni
