Hello Everyone,
Our first full week in Pre-K went by very quickly! We continue getting back into the school routine. We have been talking a lot about Jack & Jill's School Rules which are:
We take care of our friends and teachers.
We take care of our things.
We take care of ourselves.
If you have not done so already, please send in an extra set of clothing to be kept at school for your child. Each child has a cubby labeled in the hall to the right of our classroom door.
We read The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn, Best Behavior by Patricia Hegarty, There's Only One You by Kathryn Heling and listened to Pete The Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons by Eric Litwin.
We talked a lot about numbers this week. We did a number hunt in our classroom with each child walking around our classroom and standing next to a number they found. I told the children to keep their eyes open for numbers at home and as they are out in the community.
You may have heard about Mat Man! Mat man is made of wood pieces and a blue mat. Building him helps children learn spatial and drawing concepts. We sit in a circle, listen to the mat man song and each child adds their piece to build him.
Our Centers this week:
Discovery Table: Magnetic Rods and balls
Math Table: Color Sorting and Size Comparison
Art Easel: The children used a scrub brush to paint a tree. They were able to add apples too.
Project Table: Kissing Hand Project-using a stamp pad, the children were able to create their own kissing hand and add a heart.
Bracelet making-this was very popular. The children did a great job of lacing the beads onto the pipe cleaners.
Pete the Cat-to go along with our story the children were able to create their own Pete the Cat and add all different types of buttons. There were colored stickers, real buttons, and foam shapes that could be used as buttons. We worked on counting the buttons they added and some children were even able to write the number!
Writing Table: Coloring Sheets and Mat Man Worksheets, along with white paper. We are also working hard at writing our first names.
5 Day Pre-K:
We extended our learning of numbers on Friday. The children worked hard at putting together a floor puzzle which was a number train. We also incorporated this into a gross motor activity that they loved. We used 2 dice that each child would roll-they would identify the number on the dice and then the activity shown on the other dice. We then would do that activity for the number of times the numbered dice showed. We also read Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes. They also LOVED the I Can Draw book I added to the Writing Table. They were all very busy drawing animals.
The extended day children really enjoyed the Wikki Stix activity...we worked on fine motor, imagination and a lot of conversation!
Enjoy the weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kelley
