Hello everyone, I hope that you have had a wonderful week.
Today marks the end of our first full week here in the younger preschool classroom, and it was a great one! This week the children continued to become accustomed to class routines and schedules, and have already shown great improvement in doing so! We have been practicing walking in a line, sitting "criss cross apple sauce" during circle time, and raising a hand when in need of assistance during mealtimes. Here is a look at what we did in centers this week.
Art Easel- The class used paint sticks to color in "My House" projects, where painters tape house outlines were removed afterwards to reveal the finished houses. The kids had a great time with this project! At the end of the week, we used watercolors and preschool themed coloring pages.
Art/Writing table- Here the class used differently shaped stamps and ink pads, as well as markers and crayons to decorate cutout paper houses to be hung with their family pictures on our family wall. Thankyou to all who have sent one in! The kids loved being able to look at their pictures and tell us all about them.
Math table- Here we had colored houses alongside colored people and animal figures where the children counted how many people are in their own houses, and pets! They were also able to color sort the figures into the correct houses.
The discovery center- Here the class was prompted to build their own houses using material such as playdough, Q-Tip's, Duplo Legos, popsicle sticks, and straws. This center was very busy throughout the week and coincided with our reading of The Three Little Pigs in class.
Our sensory table is apple pie themed for the month of September, and includes red pompoms, oats, baking utensils and pans, and miniature plastic apples. I have loved being able to here the children talking about their baking creations, we've had many cakes, pies, and even lasagna!
This week we read:
The Kissing Hand ( for the second week in a row per the class's request )
The Three Little Pigs
I Like Me
We had a wonderful time in class this week and hope you all enjoy a nice weekend! See you all again next week!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Mackenzie and Mrs. Haynes
