Finishing Up February in 5 Day Pre-K!
Hi Everyone,
We made it through our first week back after February Vacation. We did spend some tiime this week going over the school rule of Taking Care of Friends and Teachers (no matter who the teacher is in the classroom). We read Kindness is Cooler Mrs. Ruler which is a story about being kind at school, home and in the community and easy ways to to do this.
Our Reading Street Book this week was A House for Hermit Crab by Eric Carle. "A hermit crab who has outgrown his old shell moves into a new one, which he decorates and enhances with the various sea creatures he meets in his travels."
Our Reading Song was I'm a Little Hermit Crab. Our vocabulary words were crab, decorate, empty, shell, inside and outgrown.
We listened to the story of The Koala Who Could by Rachel Bright.
Our Letter of the Week was K. Our Letter Sound Song was Brick by Brick. K is for Karate!
Other activities in our classroom this week were:
Discovery Table: Letter hunt with tweezers in rice
Pretend Center: The Grocery Store continues to be very popular and busy!
Math Table: Shape sorting
Art Easel: K is for Kite.....the children were able to use dot markers to make the letter K and then decorate their kite using colored pencils
Sensory Table: Arctic animals with blocks and paper shred
Project Table: Keys were decorated and then the children punched a hole and made a keychain out of pipe cleaners and beads.
Hermit Crab Craft....the children painted their shell with sponges. They stamped their hand to make a hermit crab. These were drying and will be put together next week.
Writing Table: K Worksheets, doodle boards and various writing utensils and scissors.
A few important reminders!
Please continue to send a hat and mittens DAILY. It is cold at recess and many children do not have what they need.
Make sure all water bottles and lunchboxes are labeled with your child's name.
Check your Family Mailbox at the bottom of the stairs for important school information. There are many Spirit Days in March. The first being tomorrow, it is Mismatch Day.
If you are looking for something fun for your child to do this summer, registration is open for Jack & Jill's Summer School Program. There are 7 fun weeks to chose from and you an choose as many weeks as you would like.
See you in the morning,
Mrs. Kelley
