Hi All,
Exciting news! All of our butterflies have emerged from their chrysalis. We set them up to spend the long weekend in their butterfly house due to the bad weather at the end of the week. We will release them on Monday.
On Monday we had our last session on Martial Arts. The children really enjoyed this program. There will be a Graduation on Monday, June 2nd at 10 am if you are able to attend. Information on this was in your Family Mailbox at the bottom of the stairs.
On Tuesday, we walked over to the Attleboro Public Library where we had a tour of the children's section. Mrs. Brown, the children's librarian, read us the book Carlo and the Really Nice Librarian. We then played in the children's section....there was a Grocery Store, kitchen, magnetic letters, sitting area and books to use! Many children got their own library cards and were able to check out one book. After visiting the library, we went outside and had a picnic snack of cheddar bunnies and juice boxes. Then we played on the playground.
Our Reading Street Book this week was Guess Who? by Margaret Miller. We discussed how she was the author and illustrator of this book and what that means. In this book, "a simple question is posed along with a picture of a child in a familiar situation. On the opposite page are four picture choices, the answers are funny. Flip the page and the correct picture and words appear, in a clever visual game that develops logical thinking and categorizing skills". The children LOVED this book. We talked about the photograph on the page that asked Who Goes To School?...the classroom looked similar to ours.
Our song was Everybody Has a Job. Our vocabulary words were children, dentist, letter carrier, mail, picture and school.
We also read The Very Hungry Caterpillar and A Butterfly Is Born. The children acted out the life cycle of a butterfly.
We have been reviewing the letters of the alphabet and the sounds they make.
Other activities:
Project Table: Making a very hungry caterpillar by stamping tubes into paint and then onto paper. Adding details with crayons.
Butterly sponge painting. This was a hit and by request will be availale again tomorrow. The children painted one side of a sponge...folded it in half so the wings were symmetrical and then pressed it onto the paper. They added details with markers.
Art Easel: Free Art-white paper and water colors
Listening Center: Ten Little Caterpillars
Math Table: Light table with shapes and pattern cards.
Play doh: Yellow play doh, cookie cutters, rollers, craft sticks and buttons
Sensory Table: Gardens
Discovery Table: Our butterfly house, paper and crayons to draw observations
Pretend Center: School
We also played Junior Twister this week. The children had so much fun.
On Friday, we were all treated to a Pizza Party by Logan's Grammy. The children all enjoyed the pizza! Thank you Grammy for your generosity!
Enjoy the day and I will see you in the morning!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kelley
