May Magic in 5 Day Pre-K!

Hi Everyone,

Thank you very much for the thoughtful gifts and generosity for Teacher Appreciation Week. It really meant a lot!

Our Reading Street book this week was Over In the Meadow by Olive Wadsworth. "Over in the meadow in the sand and the sun lived an old mother turtle and her little turtles one. So begins this classic nursery poem, a favorite counting rhyme for generations of children." The children had fun counting along. On Tuesday, we pretended to be each of the animals in the story. On Thursday, each child acted out one animal from the story as the other children watched and figured out what animal the person was doing.

Speaking of animals, there was much excitement in spotting a bunny near our fence at recess the other day.

We had a busy week in our classroom. The children were excited to make their gift and gift bag for their Mom. Each day at the Project Table, they worked on a different part of this project. I hope you all like your gift. The children planted marigold seeds for the Moms.

Our Letter of the Week was Y. Our Letter Sound Song was Let's Go In My Yard and Play.

We also listened to Chicks and Salsa.

On Monday, we did karate. The children were taught about respect and focus. They enjoyed doing this and were trying to practice what they learned in the classroom.

Y is for Yoga. Mrs. Fryberg, came in to do yoga on Friday. The children LOVED yoga and did a wonderful job.

Other activities:

Math Table: Yeti in my spaghetti board game

Discovery: We observed the caterpillars in their chrysalis and moved them into the butterfly house. We talked about how we don't see a lot of activity from the outside but the wonderful changes taking place on the inside.

Writing Table: Dry erase boards, Y books and assorted paper & writing utensils

Play-Doh:  Colored sand in trays

Art Easel: We painted with combs, picks and egg beaters. It was neat to see the different textures, patterns and color mixing that was created using these items to paint with.

Looking ahead:

Please dress your child in comfortable clothing tomorrow for karate.

Jack and Jill's Art Show & Open House is tomorrow night, Monday, May 12th from 6:00-7:30 pm. The children worked hard to create beautiful artwork and can't wait to share it with you.

Show & Tell for letter Z will be on Wednesday.

Wishing all the Moms a Happy Mother's Day!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Kelley
