Good Morning,
I can't believe it is already October! We hope the start to your October has been great like it has been for us in the Older Preschool class(: We had a busy week. Our Tuesday/ Thursday group had their first fire drill. They did fabulous. We kicked off community helper month with our first special guest. We had Nurse Cerrone come in and talk to the kids about how important her job is for the community. She also read them a book called: Helping you Heal.
The kids loved checking out all the things she brought in.
We also started a germ experiment. Ask your child about it!
The books we read this week were: Duck on a Bike, 10 Apples up on top, Miss Mingo, Leaves Change Colors.
Centers
Listening Center: Hands off my Honey
Playdough Table: Last week for green playdough with cutters, rollers, scissors and animal cutouts.
Dramatic Play: Last week for our barn with barn animals.
Art Table: Painting with corn, Leaf rubbing and some free art.
Science/Math table: Sort the colored bears, 10 apples on top activity.
Sensory Table: Last week for farm animals and shovels filled with corn and beans.
Art Easel: pumpkin and leaf coloring sheets with paint markers.
Writing Table: Tracing letter A in the sand.
We always have blocks, puzzles, fidgets and writing boards available during centers. Last week for the toy barn with animals at blocks. We added a cut up pool noodle to go along with one of the books we read, 10 apples on top. The children could practice stacking and counting the "apples" to see how high they could get it. They tried to get them to stay on their head, arms etc. It was fun!
Thank you so much to the families who donated tissues and hand sanitizer. We are all set for a while. We appreciate you all!
Reminders:
Please send a jacket or sweatshirt with your child. If it is too warm we won't have them wear them but this week showed us how fall weather can be tricky. We go out to recess after snack in the morning so it can be chilly some days.
If you send a hat and mittens please put them in the arm of their jacket. Makes it easier for us to locate them.
We have been practicing "tag to your toes" with your children to practice putting on their jackets. Ask them to show you (:
Next week for show and tell: Letter B. Anything that is not too big that begins with B. Please send it into the classroom with your child when they come in, in the morning. I didn't specify that to begin with, sorry for that!
If you have any questions or concerns don't hesitate to reach out. Enjoy your weekend.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Derbyshire & Mrs. Deighan
