Good evening Younger Preschool Families!
This week was an eventful one in school. We had our first fire drill with the Tuesday/Thursday class, and everyone did great! We also kicked off community helpers month with a visit from Nurse Jennifer! Everyone enjoyed listening to her talk about helping people and learning about different ways to keep themselves healthy.
Here is what we did in centers this week:
The art table- here the class fingerpainted autumn trees, used leaves they collected during a leaf hunt activity outside to create fall wreaths, and marble painted apples.
The discovery center- here we used magnifying glasses to explore various items from nature including different types of leaves and branches, and pinecones. We then offered a beading activity where the kids made pumpkins with the letters of their names and orange pony beads.
The art easel- we used red and green dot stickers to decorate apple coloring pages.
The math table- here the class was able to count and identify numbers one through five using numbered apples and black pom poms for apple seeds.
Our sensory table is now Halloween themed and includes various Halloween themed toys, recipe cards for witches' brew alongside the items to make it, and black cauldrons. This was a very busy center this week! We loved hearing about what everyone plans to dress up as for the holiday.
The playdough center now holds orange, pumpkin scented playdough with jack-o-lantern accessories, and the dramatic play area now includes a pretend kitchen and new baby doll items.
For music and movement we danced to We Are the Dinosaurs, a freeze dance, and a few other class favorites such as Animal Action 1.
The books we read in class this week included:
Red Leaf Yellow Leaf
We're Going on a Leaf Hunt
Signs of Fall
We hope that you all get to enjoy this upcoming beautiful weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Mackenzie and Mrs. Haynes
