Wrapping Up September in Pre-K 1!
Hi Everyone!
We had a great week in our classroom. Everyone is very busy during Center Time each day. The children truly seem to enjoy all of the activities in our classroom. I added magna tiles to the block area which included cranes, roadway pieces and bricks. I also added construction vehicles to the sand in the Sensory Table. I loved hearing the children working together at the Sensory Table. They had "6 jobs to do even though Mr. Rally had 5". This was from our Reading Street Book last week. To hear them recalling what the jobs were "bridge on the ridge" and "load on the road" made me smile. Also, during lunch today they all started singing "Time To Rhyme" which we learned the first week of school.
Our Letter of the Week was F. Our song this week was Five Fat Cats.
This week's Reading Street book was We Need Construction Workers by Lisa Trumbauer. "Simple text and photographs present construction workers (both male and female) and their role in the community". Our song to go along with our book was We Are Builders. Our Amazing Words were buildings, hammers, lumber, pound, wear (hard hats, tool belts, work boots) and community.
The other books we read this week were Froggy Goes To School by Jonathan London and Up, Up, Up, It's Apple Picking Time by Jody Fickes Shapiro. We listened to Froggy Builds a Treehouse by Jonathan London (make sure to ask what Froggy likes to have on his pizza).
Our Centers this week:
Writing Table: Chalkboards, F Booklets & F Worksheets, paper and stampers
Discovery Table: Sink or Float Experiment....the children made guesses as to which items would sink and which would float. A toy boat, coin, acorn, leaf, rock, car, plastic letter F and wooden spool were all tested.
Math Table: Numbered fish bowls and fish
Art Easel: Sponge Painting a tree and adding apples to it
Dump Truck picture to paint with watercolors
Project Table: Materials to make a fish
Hard Hat....lots of different stickers to use. The children worked hard to find the letter stickers to spell their names. It was nice to hear them working together looking through the letters if a friend needed help.
Free Art...paper, markers and stickers were available
Looking ahead our Letter of the Week next week will be E. Show & Tell will be on Wednesday.
I hope you all have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kelley
